YEP is a community coalition managed by the Woodford County Health Department.
YEP offers youth engagement opportunities in the afterschool hours to reduce the occurrence of high-risk behaviors, like substance use. By creating more access to positive systems of support we can ensure youth are better prepared to confront challenges and grow.
The Youth Coalition Council is an initiative centered around the idea of listening to the youth in our community and giving them a voice. Letting young people guide us to what they need is essential to our project’s success.
We have formed a council in both the middle and high school. Members supply feedback on areas of interest the project should pursue, including program offerings and desired resources.
Our Family Resource Coordinators host our meetings, but each council is youth lead.
A Message from the Project Director
To Woodford County,
Our project wants to provide new avenues of exploration and growth for youth in Woodford County, with the goal of reducing the occurrence of unhealthy, or high-risk, behaviors.
The work of our community coalition is just getting started, but our goal is clear. There is a need for more diverse opportunities for youth to participate, to be active, to be social. We aim to provide those opportunities.
For us, like for you, this is all brand new. We have never had the opportunity to make progress for our county’s youth in this way before, but we have a real chance here to make an impact on the future.
We are all excited to make progress, not just for the sake of our young people, but for our entire community.
For my part, I think it is important for you to know how privileged I feel to be doing this work.
Let’s make a difference.
Sincerely,
Cole Grannis
